David Shepherd is a Canadian politician who has served as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Edmonton-City Centre since 2015. He is a member of the New Democratic Party (NDP).
Shepherd was born in Edmonton, Alberta, and raised in the city's west end. He attended the University of Alberta, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and a Master of Arts degree in public administration.
Before entering politics, Shepherd worked as a community organizer and advocate. He was also a member of the Edmonton Public School Board from 2007 to 2015.
As an MLA, Shepherd has served as the NDP's critic for health, education, and finance. He is also a member of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts and the Standing Committee on Health.
Shepherd is known for his advocacy for public education, affordable housing, and improved healthcare. He is also a strong supporter of environmental protection and social justice.
In 2019, Shepherd was re-elected to the Alberta Legislature with a significant increase in his margin of victory. He is considered to be one of the NDP's most promising young politicians.
